Schwinn 220 Recumbent Bike Review

Several brief reviews on Schwinn 220 have been submitted by our visitors in 2012. It pushed us to do a lot of research and finally to find a unit for testing. It happened at last, after almost a year!

Our first impression is that we got a huge indoor trainer that comes with a disproportionately small LCD display built into an oversized console. Everything else on this machine is great except the computer display. It's really shame that it doesn't match the quality of the rest of the bike. In the other hand, the same big console has some of the features that you'll find only in more expensive machines. There are built-in speakers with an mp3 input, holders for magazines, books, or other reading, and a 2-speed cooling fan (which is pretty weak, by the way). The computer lets you enter custom info for one user and it keeps track of your workout. Other users can use the Guest settings.

The Schwinn 220 recumbent bike is equipped with the reliable ECB (Eddy Current Brake) quiet magnetic resistance system. It supports 16 resistance levels. A 13.2-pound flywheel provides truly smooth, consistent workouts. The contoured recumbent seat with lumbal support is similar to the seats used on bikes that fall into the same category - nothing spectacular, but still very comfortable. A contact heart rate monitor is built into the handlebars on both sides of the seat.

We did not have a chance to go through the process of assembling the parts of the unit, but the owner assured us it was simple. The kit comes with easy to follow assembly instructions. As they said on the official website, "Even on a tight budget, you can now afford a quality Schwinn recumbent bike of your own."

Drawbacks: The console needs to be back lighted.

Conclusion: Good bike for everyday excerise. Considering that this is an outgoing model and Schwinn has launched new recumbent bike series to the market, dealers who don't have it in stock probably will not get this model again. Given that we found the Schwinn 220 on sale right now, you have a chance to grab a very good recumbent exercise bike at an affordable price (for more details see below).
